Great tyre in wet and dry.
I used to run falken tyres on my xr6 but I changed over to the sumitomo Htr I love them they grip well in all conditions and were a lot less expensive than the falken tyres. overall they are great value and are wearing in well. Will be interesting to see how many klms I get out of them.

Good alternative to premium priced tyres for E46 BMW and similar Euro cars
I put these tyres on my BMW 316ti E46, bought secondhand with 17 BMW alloy wheels. Note on this car with this size, they are a staggered size 225/45/17 on front and 245/40/17 on rear - so tyre rotation is not possible front<>back as is the case with some cars. Tyres were nearly new (approx 20% worn). First the good: reasonably quiet tyre on this car. Nice, responsive handling in wet and in dry. Reasonable wear, I got approx 45,000km out of them. What was really nice was that the fronts and rears wore out almost at the same rate (I had to replace the rears first, replaced with Pirelli - see separate review). Also a nice big rim protector/flange. Good feedback when doing a nice twisty road (think Black Spur, Tawonga Gap). Next the not-so-good: Wet handling, particularly at the limit, should be better. I managed to completely lose it in the wet and actually spun the car, despite stability control. Admittedly (1) it was extremely heavy rain after extended dry period, so surface was really slippery and (2) I was deliberately trying to see what happens, this was done on asphalt but not in a traffic situation (carpark/industrial estate). When they do let go, they let go in a big way. So you do need to pay more attention in the wet, which you should always do. To be fair, I did not get to repeat this experiment on the replacement tyres so cannot give a direct like-for-like comparison. Oh and they do tram-track. And the range of sizes is limited. FInally the very bad: hard to find, very few tyre resellers have these, you really have to look for them. Or go Ebay. There are other independent reviews out there [link removed] which also rate these quite highly. Considering the price point (around $160 for the 225/45/17 and well under $200 for the 245/40/17, if you can get them), these are I think, exceptional value for a Japanese made performance tyre. Yes you can buy Contis or Bridgestones or Pirellis but you ll be paying closer to $300 or more per tyre and they will not last as long. There are cheaper alternatives as well from the Koreans... In conclusion - I definitely recommend these on both a performance and value dimension. Yes there are better tyres out there for 50% more outlay. But on a bang-for-buck, these are worth looking at, if you can find them.

Best value, made in Japan
I do 60k km a year and frankly can t afford $2000+ for a set that lasts just 10k km. These are well made and provide great rim protection, really durable. In terms of performance I carry 500kg product in a 2 tonne V8 with 630 HP and 825 Nm daily, typically on country roads at a decent clip. For past five years these are my go-to tyre.

A True Budget Premium Performance Tyre
I have been searching a reasonably priced premium performance tyre for a while, until I try the Sumitomo. I replaced a set of Falken FK452 (also a good budget performance tyre, if not so quite comparing to Sumit) and noticed much lower tyre noise instantly. I was worried its performance on wet but now I can tell you they come very closed to many expensive brands that the difference is no really noticeable. In my experience only the Falken FK453 comes neck to neck if a fraction more expensive. And only the Goodyear F1 performs a tiny little better, but you ll have to pay over 50% more for that fraction bit of advantage in wet performance. Unlike some Korean premium performance tyres that hardly related to the word performance, this Sumitomo is a true performance tyre with a price tag that you can not complaint. Car manufacturers always under-tyre their stock vehicles, partly due to they try to get a good fuel consumption figure but still safe (if not ideal) to drive. Most stock spec are for taxi drivers, not a motor enthusiast. So if you have a decently powered car or you want a little more out of your car, the first thing you need to do is to up-spec your tyres (I upgrade the wheel/tyre on every single of my cars). You don t have to get a bigger wheel if you think the stock size is reasonable enough, as it could make a mess in ride comfort. But a little wider tyre could significantly improve the grips. E.g. an Aurion with 200+kw FWD only come 215/55R17 from stock; Ford narrowed MC Mondeo s tyre width from MB s 235/45R17 to 215/50R17 (same diameter but narrower), despite increasing in power. In Mondeo s case I just change the 215/50R17 back to 235/45R17 and problem solve.

Awesome tyres without the price tag!!
For those of us that want an impressive tyre at a fair price I don t think you can look past these. They re a really direct tyre, giving great control with a smooth, soft ride. Ive been using these tyres for over 5yrs now. Ive had the high end range of Bridgestone and where the budget didn t permit, Ive opted for the above budget tyre. Depending on where you go they will range from $130 - $220. If you cant afford the higher end in the range, but still want something of similar ride, these are hard to beat. Nice looking tyre with great control. Try them for yourselves.

Terrible
I was recommended sumitomo 240/40/17s by Ian diffan and they proved incompatable with the traction control so sumitomo did come to the party and replaced with 245/45/17s that are not only got terrible lateral grip poor traction under power compared to the pirelli s they replaced but look terrible. I can t comment on wearing as replaced within a week at my own expense.

Toyota Aurion Sports with 18in rims

Affordable premium tyres
I bought these after I saw they polled well in an overseas tyre review, beating well-known premium brands -which are dearer than these in Oz. Probably as Sumitomo are trying to gain market share in this country. I do loads of driving on winding hills roads. I ve found these tyres are amply quiet, and hold on very well in both wet and dry. Others have reported they wear at a good rate, and I ve found the same. Sumitomo are one of the last few tyre brands still manufacturing out of Japan, which also swayed me towards them. Would certainly be looking at these again next time.

Working well so far
Came on the car I bought, with roughly 5km on them. Now travelled around 8km and wearing well on my AMG E55, with tyre sizes 245 and 265 on 18 rims. Plants power really well in both wet and dry. Tyre noise is minimal. Would buy again.

Great for price and decent handling
Overall very happy with these. My CC Passat has had 3 tyre types since my ownership and the sumis are better than the contis that came standard and the Bridgestone re s i replaced. Dry excellent, wet is good but as other guy said they could improve a tad. Very good value for money though! 250 for 19s is excellent bought online from tempe is Sydney.

Excellent
I have had these fitted to a Nissan Skyline as my road wheels when not on the track and couldnt fault them around town and on the open road. I also have these fitted to my wifes 04 Holden Calais in 19 and with her driving and proper maint. they will be seeing the 30,000 mark with at least 20,000 to go. A+ tyre. All mine where supplied by JAXQuickfit tyres in Moorabbin, Vic. Cant ask for a cleaner and friendlier tyre store.. certainly breaks the mould.

i purchased these tyres for my r33 nissan skyline mainly because of the following 2 reasons 1,wheel flange guard, 2 the tread style,have had the tyres now for 3 months they are brillant in wet and dry,as my skyline is rear wheel drive all the other tyres i have had , are not as brilliant as the htrz 111,iam so happy i am getting a second set this week for my spare set of alloy wheels my nearest dealer is safadi tyres punchbowl,do not discontinue these tyres ,they are brilliant

Terrible
These would have to be the worst tyres I have ever fitted (205/50 ZR17), and the people at the Tyre Factory the most incompetent tyre people to go with it. Vehicle is a Volvo S40 T5. Previous Pirellis and Yokoahmas all lasted 40,000 kms. These tyres sound like rally tyres after 15,000 - and I had a wheel alignment when they were fitted. The dude at the Tyre factory said i should get a wheel alignment every 5,000 kms - yeah right!

2010 Audi A5 2.0 T Quattro

Excellent value for a daily driver performance car
Had these on my 2010 Audi A5 2.0 T Quattro (tuned) Was pleasantly surprised at the quiet ride and very good grip levels in the dry and the wet. I ve been a long time tyre where who has chopped between Bridgestone RE050, Pirelli Pzero and Conti Maxcontact. They are all good tyres with my favourite being the Conti for all-round performance, noise, durability, but the Sumitomo comes a very close second and is my choice of the four brands for a daily driver simply due to the fact that it is only 65 - 75% of the price of a conti in the 255/35/19 size. I flip my wheels/tyres usually at about the 50% wear level (in my opinion the best part of the tyre is gone and you still get some $$ back on resale!). With rotation at 10k km I ve experienced similar wear from all four, a little less with the Bridgestone and a little better with the Pirelli (but it was also the noisiest). With my driving style I d expect 40,000 km from the Sumitomo, probably closer to 50k. Highly recommend.

I haven t had these tyres on long enough to state wet weather handling or tyre life but in the dry, these things stick and then some much much better then the more expensive yokohama advans i had on prior.if these tyres are decent in the wet i will definitely be buying again

Best Iv tried under $300.
Changed my Renault Megane 205/50R17 Potenza s to Z111 s as they were nearly half the price. Got 43K out of each brand. Found the SumitomoZ111 better on cornering, quieter and with better tracking. Wet road performance nearly as good. My other Megane I changed from Potenza s To Continental Conti Sport 2 s. These handled approx.90% as well as the Z111, only did 44K and started to loose flakes of rubber from the block tread leading edge - re-shod with Z111 s - now more confident.
