KU-39 Best value for money performance tyre - Awesome grip wet or dry and real confidence inspiring! I Bought these tyres after extensive months of research and to be honest there wasn't a lot of reviews available due to the newness of the tyres, but read enough reviews to know they were worth taking a punt on. Well what a revelation!!! I came off Y ... I Bought these tyres after extensive months of research and to be honest there wasn't a lot of reviews available due to the newness of the tyres, but read enough reviews to know they were worth taking a punt on. Well what a revelation!!! I came off Yokohama C-Drives which in my opinion were an excellent tyre in the wet and dry but the KU-39â€™s were a whole level above them. In the dry they were really excellent with high levels of grip and very forgiving of over-exuberant cornering techniques - they are practically, unstickable.... They are near enough to silent and that's comparing them to the Yoky's which themselves are a very quiet tyre. In the dry they hang on like a granny to a handbag and offer extremely high cornering speeds - and give the driver immense confidence. Without going absolutely silly on the road I have not been able to break traction with them. In the wet, they are, if possible, even better. They do stick like the proverbial baby poo to a blanket and offer wet cornering at dry speed times, even when its really wet...I have been driving for nearly 30 years and these are easily the best wet weather tyres I have EVER driven on. The braking is prodigious - from 60 km/h in the dry I can pull the car up in literally 2 car lengths and in the wet itâ€™s more like 3 car lengths. Crazy braking that inspires huge confidence when you stomp on the pedal. All in all an awesome tyre and the only downside I can forsee is tyre life - the tyres are a little softer than a lot of tyres and this might mean shorter life - but with a wife and two kids I don't mind that they make the car safer, even if I go through tyres a little quicker. For feedback I have two driving styles - Dr. Jeckle when the wife and kids are in the car, Mr. Hyde when they are not... e.g. drive it like it's stolen... final word on them is a positive one - they have the worldâ€™s biggest rim protector on them...it's not a lip, the whole beading is recessed, making it extremely difficult for the gutter to get anywhere near the rim edge. Shop around and haggle as they vary wildly from dealer to dealer. I was quoted as high as $285 per tyre fitted and while they are a great tyre (especially in value for money) thats high end Michelin territory. Will I buy them again? You bet, especially as I got these for $150 Australian, which makes them the buy of the decade!

Every now and then (usually when it is raining) you have to change one on the side of the road fearing for your life all the while, hoping that some fool isn't driving down the road checking out all the funny stories on bored panda on their smart phone instead of driving.A trip to the tyre center is often a lightening experience. It lightens my wallet.Having just spent 22 grand on a nice Nissan Z car, I was not impressed to learn that two weeks later when the rego ran out that I would have to go and buy a full set of tyres for the thing. Learning of the price of a new set of Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin tyres put me into a catatonic state for five days and the only reason I came out of that state was because my wife spoon fed me a plate of habanero chillis. And then I spent another two days on the toilet, but that is another story.Around two grand it was gonna cost me for a full set of Bridgestone's. Quite a lot of money in anyone's language (although, to be quite honest, I have never heard anyone say two thousand dollars in Ongotan.)So, I got onto the search engine that almost single handedly made librarians obsolete: Google, and did a search for a decent set of tyres that would suit my gorgeous black z.I found quite a few, but the best deal I could come up with was from tyroola.com.au, who supplied a full set of front and rear tyres (and by big rear tyres, I am talking about 275 series here, boys, and that is from the factory) for around half the price of new Bridgestones.The tread looks aggressive, manly, sexy, voluptuous, alluring, seductive...I dunno. i mean, how many words can you use to describe a tyre for Christ's sake? I know I know, some guys love their tyres, and they can find hundreds of more useful synonyms than mine.The fact is, point 1: these tyres saved me a grand. Are they better? Wgaf (see point 1).They made my z quieter on the road. Definitely. But I can't compare them with old tyres. Time will tell. They seem great, they seem to hug the road nicely. I ran over a dead something on the way to the tyre shop and I felt every inch of what I hit in the seat of my pants, coming back, I ran over the same dead thing and could hardly feel it at all. Mind you, by the time I got back the roadkill was the size of a big mac patty, maybe thinner.Hey, ask me in twelve months. I should have a better answer. Thanks!The verdict? Good price and treadwear, decent dry grip, but nowhere near Japan/Euro rivals on wet I had two front 225/45R18 on my Aurion. Although the 225 is the OEM option size for 18 inch, I was trying to find 235/45R18, which is the same overall diameter to OEM 215/55R17 but over that time there wasn't many cars on that size range so sourcing ... At the beginning (mostly dry weather in winter) the Kumho was quite ok. Dry grip was actually comparable to some very expensive premium brand (say GY F1, Dunlop SP Maxx). I ran a trip into Lamington national park with a 5 seats occupied and there was no problem for these tyres on those windy mountain roads. however all that changed when summer is approaching.Please note I didn't intend to test the limit nor doing anything "enthusiastically" -- I have direct comparisons -- mediocre rivals that you may never consider putting them side by side. If shopping trolley is the only thing you need, buy the cheapest things you can find and you will never have to waste your time to read any review.After visiting some relatives on a raining night I drove home on some pouring wet roads -- I know you will say I should slow down in wet -- I did try to drive carefully, and I had a direct comparison next to me -- a stock corolla. On a traffic light feast road with only the Corolla next to me, every time the light turns green the corolla started and gone, like it was driving on dry. In comparison everytime I tried to push more than 1/4 to 1/3 of the throttle to my Aurion the Kumho spin and the car was like driving on ice, then the ESP kicked in tried to settle the car but because there wasn't any grip at all the car started shaking and somehow almost non controllable. I then had to let the car roll on itself from stop and had only minimal throttle once it's rolling and got the grips. Yes a corolla splashed on the face of an Aurion every time when the light turned green.I immediately changed the tyres to a set of Falken 453 on 235/45R18. After changing to Falkens I easily pushing the throttle more than 1/2 way without any slips. Never ever duplicate the horrifying wheel spin with Kumho. I admit 225 was a bit of too narrow to cope with Aurion's grunt but still 10mm of difference shouldn't make such a huge difference.I worked in a performance import dealer before and I did drive various of fast cars, many different tyres, cheap and expensive. I have a set of KL51 on my ute and I can significantly feel the difference on dry and wet, so I prefer to switch the ute to 4WD mode when raining or on twisty roads to improve all round traction. I found Kumho can make itself closed to euro brands on dry, but apparently Koreans don't know how to grip in wet. Though they are good value, good treadwear and well constructed. So if you are after a set of good priced, durable and reliable tyres they remain good choices (though you need to scarify some of your enthusiast, especially in wet or when tread is getting lower). If outright performance is your fist priority (and money no issue), Goodyear F1 is always my first choice (though you scarify the lifespan). However for all those premium road tyres I tried, Premium range of small japanese brands are the most balanced choices. E.g Falken 453, Sumitomo HTR ZIII are priced comparable to KU39, with equally impressive dry and wet grip, as well as decent treadwear, well constructed too.
