About Nitto TRAIL GRAPPLER M/T Tyres

The Trail Grappler® M/T blends some of the performance of the Mud Grappler with the on-road comfort of the Terra Grappler to create an off-road tyre that is both aggressive and quiet.

For off-road performance, the 3-ply sidewall and thick rubber construction increase puncture resistance. On the tread surface, the blocks provide additional biting edges that command lateral stability and enhance forward traction. For on-road comfort, Nitto’s engineers used advanced sound analysis equipment to systematically

Best mud terrain out
Purchased the trail grapplers 2 years after a few months of research beforehand. Was a toss up between the KM2 and these at the time. Had a look at both in the flesh and these won me over by the stiffer sidewall construction compared to the KM2 and tread block design which I believed was better thought out. First impressions once fitted were very quiet for a MT and seeing as it was raining at the time held the road way better than I was expecting and actually better than the AT that were fitted previous. Wear has exceeded my expectations and I should probably see another 15000 out of these. They do everything I ask from beach work to trails to Rocky sections and resist punctures very well f4om either sidewall or through tread. Picked up a 50mm screw from somewhere a while ago. Didn't bother it at all. Just skewed through the tread block and went no further. Hit the sidewalls on Rocky edges and they haven't had any damage at all. Of course in the mud these things are great and self clear very well. Will definitely buy again

Offroad Goodness
These tyres are great offroad. I have never had a puncture or side wall issue. In mud and on rocks they excel. Wear rate is ok. I got over 50000 kms from my first set. Frequent rotation is required to ensure maximum longevity. I rotate mine every 5000km. Road noise starts out reasonable but becomes worse as the tyres wear. These are not cheap tyres. I paid about $400 each for my first set and thankfully they got a bit cheaper for my second set at $350 each. Highly recommended if you travel offroad a lot.

Trail Grappler MT
Tyres have been great on and off road. They have had the least road noise out of any mud terrain I have owned. However they do seem to be wearing quicker than I expected . Wet weather handling is great and I trust these tyres 100%

Quiet and road gripping
I just recently purchased a set of nitto tyres for my hilux. I found them to be very quiet for the agressive pattern they have. Also in the wet they are very good with a lot of grip even though the roads are wet. Wear and tear seems to be going great so I would recommend nitto tyres to everyone

Best tyre Ive had!!
Purchased a set of these last year for our Landcruiser. Beside the fact that they look awesome and have the maximum diameter legally possible, they have preformed really well. I just came back from a trip to birdsville and back, they never missed a beat. We liked them so much we put them on my wife s car as well

Surprisingly Good for a new comer - Performs beyond my expectations for a Mud Terrain Tyre
Finally, a mud tyre that rides better than some all terrain tyres. This Trail Grappler Mud Terrain tyre from Nitto surprises me with its performance and quiet ride. When I first heard of Nitto at my local Bob Jane T-Mart, I wasn t convinced with the name as I have been a faithful follower of BF Goodrich for several years and was about to switch to the Coopers for a change due to all the hype about Coopers. Anyway, a buy 3 get the 4th one free deal at my local Bob Jane store seal the deal. When I told my mates I was getting Mud Tyres, they told me to stay away as they have all experienced road noise issues and lack of on-road grip on their current tyres. I told them I read some reviews and there was one guy that said the Nitto MT are actually very quiet. I love the look of the mud terrain tyres on my truck so I didn t really care. After picking up the car with the new tyres fitted, I went on the same route that I had to go everyday to get home. Some straight roads, some roundabouts and then a pretty sharp curve to get onto the Motorway with foot to the floor to be able to merge in. First I thought the car was leaning a bit compared to before so I thought in my mind that yes, my mates were right that Mud Terrain doesn t handle as well as All Terrain so I have traded off some grip. The next step was checking for noise. I thought something was wrong. There wasn t any noise coming from the tyres at all be it slow or 100km/hour plus. No humming, no screeching or reverberation whatsoever. Well, what a surprise! I was happy. The missus won t be complaining for sure. At least I got 1 out of 2. Less grip is of course, something expected on-road for the M/T. Drove it for a few more days and actively observing the tyre behaviour to see of any improvement but it stayed the same so I concluded the Nitto M/T is as quiet or even quieter than the BF Goodrich A/T Zero I just replaced but have less grip on road. But hang on, something is not right about my comparison when I thought about it. I was not comparing apples to apples already but comparing an M/T Vs an A/T but then I forgot to take into account other factors. The BF A/T I just replaced was only 31 inches whereas the Nitto I now got were 33, which effectively meant the car now sits 2 inches higher, hence, I was a little less confident in pushing it around the bend and obviously put the Nitto at a disadvantage. After several months of testing, I have to conclude The Nitto is the best M/T tyre I have ever bought. I can t fault it in any way at all. It was dead quiet on road, have massive grip off-road and I reckon if it wasn t sitting several inches taller, it would have more on-road grip than the BF A/T I was using. So guys, as genuine 4wders to 4wders, if your thirst is the looks of the M/T tyre but worried about on-road noise or grip, I reckon the Nitto is the answer to your prayers. I almost bought the Coopers STT Pro after seeing it advertised in just about every 4wd mag. The science behind its design and creation were very convincing as well. The Nitto ad on the other hand, was so humble that I can hardly see anything special about it apart from the statement claiming the engineers have designed the tyre to be quiet . No guarantee on mileage, no fancy technical design jargon, which left me wondering if it s worth trying it out. Yet, in the end, it was a brilliant tyre and perform beyond my expectations. It s been 14 months now and I have not seen a chip or a cut to it and there is hardly any evidence of wear so I believe this tyre will last the distance. In all honesty, I couldn t be any happier with this set of tyre from Nitto.
