About Goodyear DURAPLUS Tyres

The Goodyear Duraplus has been designed to deliver a durable and long-lasting tread by utilising Goodyear Tredlife Technology.

Behind Tredlife Technology are several tyre design innovations made to deliver longer-lasting treads. It incorporates a wider tread profile that leads to an increased road footprint and more wearable rubber in contact with the road.

Furthermore, an advanced carbon-based tread compound is used so that the tyre has a higher resistance to frictional wear, which can further increase the tyre's tread life and increase mileage.

Good brand but tyres below average
Goodyear Duraplus 215 60R 16 fitted to our Mazda MPV in September of 2009. Replaced July 2012 with just over 50,000 kilometres use. Previous factory fitted Bridgestones lasted 65000 kilometres. Goodyear are currently promoting this tyre with a 70000 kilometre warranty. Shame it did not apply to our tyre when we purchased them 3 years ago as our actual usage is woefully short of the warranty. Replaced the Duraplus with Bridgestone Ecopia E100 tyres. We ll see how they go. In the mean time, shop around carefully for deals as well as reputation. Would not recommend the Goodyear tyres.

Overall good value with good performance.
I live in Southern Tasmania with lots of windy, wet roads, the tyres went on to a Falcon Ute, I have found the performance (safety) very good in all conditions. have now put a set on our Honda Civic and again found them to be very good for our driving conditions. Have not found them to be any noisier than anything else I have used and I would certainly buy them again. As for claims of better fuel economy I treat all of these type of things with a grain of salt, maybe they do maybe they don t, I am more concerned about grip both dry and wet, braking and good wear and tear, from that point of view they are certainly worth considering when buying tyres .

Worst Tyre when Wet
I bought these tyres for my honda civic in 2013, and since then I m regretting my decision. Only use my car for commuting to work which is just a few km s away, so couldn t change it till now but they are extremely dangerous when driving in Wet. No grip at all and I ve to be extra cautious while braking.

OK
There is a saving on fuel use but, as the saying goes, if a claim seems too good to be true - it probably is! Disappointed with the company and know not to trust their advertising now!

Dangerous in the wet - no grip! DONT BUY.
December 2015. I purchased this tyre on the hope that it would provide somewhere near the 70,000km guaranteed by Goodyear. However not warranted for me as I m using the car for driving instruction. Understood. Drove my Hyundai Elantra fitted with the new Duraplus tyres in the dry for about two weeks before the first rain and wet roads were encountered. Oh my God, what happened to my grip? The car dangerously understeers in corners, especially roundabouts. Understeer happens when you turn the steering wheel and the car doesn t respond to the wheel turn and tends to run wide in the corners. A very dangerous situation. Even with the modest touque of the Elantra engine, on gentle uphill acceleration the tyres would break traction and spin. I have had the tyres on the car now for 37,000km. By the current wear rate, it looks like I ll only achieve around 43,000km. Well short of the claimed figure. I run the correct tyre pressures according the vehicle manufacturer s recommendation, and check those at least monthly. I have never been confident of their wet weather grip and am looking forward to changing them before they re due. About the only application this tyre is suitable for is on my box trailer! At $135ea, Don t buy them! ...As of 26 June 2017, I finally bit the dollar bullet and changed my tyres. I ended up travelling 45,000km. They wore evenly, and didn t scrub out the shoulders much at all. The tread itself was worn down to within 1mm of the tread wear indicators. No way in the world were these tyres ever going to attain the 70,000km as claimed. (I assume Gooddyear must drive on highways without much stopping/starting/turning to achieve those figures). I have now fitted a set of 4 Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE003. fitted, balanced & wheel alignment for $490. I m so looking forward to the first wet roads on my new hoops. Review on these will be forthcoming. Cheers!

If it only saves you once a year- not.
Fitted a pair of Duraplus on the front of my Mazda 2. From the first time it rained the front end broke away under gentle wet weather braking. When taking off from a standing start the wheels just spin, no matter how gentle the clutch is released. Extremely dangerous tyres- don t buy them. Also wrote to Goodyear some weeks ago about the dangerous performance- no reply!!!! Have since put the rear set of original Toyos on the front with over 100k on them (retired them on 118.5K). Still performs better than the Duraplus. After ending up side ways (in the rain) through a dual lane city intersection, it was time to weigh up between safety and finances. Bought a new set of 4 tyres and got rid of the Duraplus- pocket is a little lighter but safety and the family are winners. Have never heard from Goodyear- my personal opinion is that they know they have a faulty product and admission would leave them liable for vehicle damages, serious injury and/or death. Hope all this helps other motorist in not choosing an extremely dangerous tyre for the family vehicle.

CAUTION. TERRIBLE TIRE IN WET CONDITIONS
Average to good performance in the dry, road noise is moderate. PRAY it doesn t rain because these tires are a hazard in the wet. My BALD Dunlop SP300s that I replaced with the Duraplus had better grip on take off and cornering in the wet. A corner that I could confidently take at 40 or 50 now has me terrified to go above 25-30 km/h due to dangerous understeer. Please, for the sake of your own safety, DO NOT buy these tires. They weren t even cheap. Look elsewhere!
